All Teleport Runes and Fast Travel in Gothic 1 Remake
How fast travel works in Gothic 1 Remake and where to get every teleport rune. The Swamp Camp, New Camp, Necromancer, and Old Camp runes, when each one unlocks, how the mana cost works, and the early Scavenger mount that helps before runes arrive in Chapter 3.
Fast travel here is a magic item, not a menu
If you came from other open-world RPGs, set your expectations. Gothic 1 Remake has no map screen where you click a discovered location and warp there. What it has instead is teleport runes, and they change the game once you start collecting them. Each rune is a physical item bound to one fixed destination. You slot it into your quickbar, activate it, and spend a bit of mana to teleport to that spot.
Two things make this system friendly even for non-mages. The runes are reusable, so they never break or get consumed no matter how many times you teleport. And the mana cost is low, so a Strength or Dexterity character who barely touched magic can still use them as long as they have a small mana pool. If you want a bigger buffer for casting, the Strength, Dexterity, and Mana guide covers raising mana.
The catch is timing. Runes are tied to main story progression, so you spend the first couple of chapters walking. That makes the early-game ore and trainer routes matter, since you cannot shortcut them yet.
Before runes: the Scavenger mount
You are not completely stuck on foot before Chapter 3. There is an optional way to move faster early:
- Scavenger mount: unlocked through the Beak Performance side quest from Cohsel, near Cavalorn on the road. You gather materials to craft a saddle and a summoning bell, and then you can ride a tamed Scavenger across the valley. It is not teleportation, but it cuts down the long walks before your first rune arrives.
The teleport runes, in order
Here is every rune and exactly how it comes to you, in roughly the order you unlock them.
Swamp Camp rune
This is your first taste of fast travel.
- How to get it: Cor Angar hands it to you at the start of Chapter 3, after you complete the Orc Cemetery main quest at the end of Chapter 2.
- Where it sends you: the Swamp Camp entrance.
New Camp rune (Water Mages)
- How to get it: Saturas gives it to you during the Chapter 3 quest The Water Mages’ Plan. You receive it at the rear of the Water Mages’ cave in the New Camp.
- Where it sends you: the Water Mages’ lair inside the New Camp. Note that this drops you at the mages’ cave specifically, not the camp gate, so it lands you deeper inside than the Swamp rune does for its camp.
Necromancer rune (Xardas’ tower)
- How to get it: you receive it in Chapter 4 after meeting Xardas.
- Where it sends you: straight to Xardas’ tower. This one is genuinely important later, because the Uriziel questline has you shuttling the sword and the temple stones back to Xardas, and this rune makes that trip instant.
Old Camp rune (Fire Mages) and the Sunken Tower rune
The last runes are optional finds rather than quest rewards.
- How to get them: both sit in a chest inside Xardas’ Sunken Tower, reachable in the later chapters. One rune teleports you to the Fire Mages’ tower in the Old Camp, and the other returns you to Xardas’ Sunken Tower.
- Why grab them: the Old Camp rune fills the last gap in your network, giving you a one-tap jump to the Fire Mages and the Old Camp area without the long overland walk.
How to actually use a rune
Once you have a rune, the process is the same every time:
- Open your inventory and find the teleport rune.
- Assign it to your quickbar alongside your other spells.
- Select it and cast, spending the small mana cost.
- You appear at that rune’s fixed destination.
If casting fails, the usual cause is not enough mana, so top up with a potion or raise your mana pool a little.
The network you end up with
By the late game you can hop between the three camps, Xardas’ tower, and the Fire Mages with single casts. That turns the back half of the campaign into a far smoother experience, since the Valley of Mines is large and the on-foot routes between camps are long and dangerous. Prioritize finishing the quests that hand you the Swamp and New Camp runes, since those two open up the most useful destinations the earliest. For the order those quests fall in, the chapter and quest walkthrough lays out the full sequence.
Rune sources and unlock timing here are drawn from post-launch coverage of the 2026 Remake. A couple of sources place the optional Old Camp rune in Chapter 5 rather than earlier, so if the Sunken Tower chest is not yet reachable, keep advancing the main story and come back for it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there fast travel in Gothic 1 Remake?
There is no traditional menu-based fast travel. Instead you collect teleport runes, each tied to one location, and activate them from your quickbar by spending mana. Runes are reusable and do not break, so once you have one you can teleport to its spot as often as your mana allows.
When do you get fast travel in Gothic 1 Remake?
Teleport runes start arriving around the beginning of Chapter 3. The first one is the Swamp Camp rune, handed to you by Cor Angar after you finish the Orc Cemetery mission at the end of Chapter 2. Before that, you travel on foot or use the Scavenger mount.
How do you get the Old Camp teleport rune?
The Old Camp, or Fire Mages, teleport rune is found in a chest inside Xardas' Sunken Tower, which you can reach in the later chapters. It sits alongside the rune for Xardas' tower itself, so you can grab both in one trip.
