How to Get and Use Uriziel in Gothic 1 Remake

A full walkthrough for the legendary sword Uriziel in Gothic 1 Remake. Where to find it in the Sleeper Temple, the five stones, taking it to Xardas, learning the sixth circle of magic, and the ore-heap recharge step with Milten before the final chapter.

Uriziel is a questline, not a loot drop

Most of the strong weapons in this game are things you find in a chest or take off a corpse. Uriziel is different. It is woven into the main story across the back half of the game, and you cannot just pick it up and swing it. It arrives drained, you have to get it identified, and then you recharge it before it does anything. This guide walks the whole chain so you know what each step needs.

A heads up before you start. This is deep into the campaign, so there are story spoilers ahead by necessity. If you are still picking a path, the chapter and quest order walkthrough gives the bigger picture without the endgame detail.

Step one: finding Uriziel in the Sleeper Temple

The whole sequence kicks off in Chapter 5, once you have the Ulu-Mulu banner that lets you walk through the Orc enclave to the Sleeper Temple. Getting the Ulu-Mulu is its own grind, since it asks you to defeat several great beasts, so come into the temple geared up.

Inside, the temple is a puzzle box of chambers. The route to the sword runs like this:

  1. Cross the lava and clear the Demon Lord chambers. There are three of them, and defeating the Demon Lords sends their souls to an invisible bridge.
  2. The gate absorbs those souls and the bridge becomes solid, opening the path forward.
  3. Cross the bridge and defeat the orc shaman Varrag-Ruushk waiting on the platform.
  4. With him down, you claim Uriziel along with the temple gemstones.

You collect five gemstones across the temple as part of this. Hold onto everything. The sword and the stones both matter for what comes next.

Step two: take it to Xardas

Once you have Uriziel and the stones, you head back to Xardas. The fastest way is the Teleport to the Necromancer rune, which drops you right at his tower. If you have not unlocked your teleport runes yet, the teleport runes and fast travel guide covers how each one is obtained.

Xardas is the one who identifies the blade as Uriziel. He also handles the magic side of your character here. If you are running a mage build, this is where you can learn the sixth circle of magic for 40 Learning Points. The sixth circle is the top tier of spellcasting and only Xardas teaches it, so a Fire or Water mage will want to budget those Learning Points in advance. The magic system guide explains the circles and what the sixth one unlocks, and the leveling and skills guide helps you save up the points.

Step three: the recharge at the ore-heap

Here is the part that trips people up, and it is worth being precise because different sources describe it loosely. When you find Uriziel, its gems are spent, so the sword does nothing as a weapon yet. Xardas converts those depleted gems into a rune and explains that the blade needs an enormous source of magical energy to power back up.

That source is the ore pile in the New Camp, the same hoard the Water Mages spent years building for their plan against the Barrier. The recharge plays out as a guided quest:

  1. Xardas points you toward the New Camp and the ore-heap.
  2. You speak to Gorn and then track down Milten, the young Fire Mage, who is found around the Water Mages’ cave.
  3. At the ore-heap, Milten reads the recharge formula while you drive Uriziel into the ore. Note that Saturas opposes using the Water Mages’ ore this way, which is part of the story tension here.

Once the ritual finishes, Uriziel is restored and usable, and completing it begins the final chapter, Chapter 6, the Sleeper’s Halls.

Using Uriziel

After the recharge, Uriziel works as your endgame blade. Its main job in the story is to let you pierce the barrier protecting the final chamber in Chapter 6, so it is the key that opens the last fight against the Sleeper as much as it is a sword.

As a pure combat weapon, be aware that some players find a fully charged Uriziel is not the absolute top of the melee damage chart. The two-handed Innos’ Wrath, looted from Gomez, can hit harder on paper, as I note in the all-game weapons guide. What Uriziel gives you is a story-critical weapon you cannot skip, plus a strong magical blade that suits a spellblade or mage build heading into the finale.

Quick checklist

If you just want the order of operations:

  1. Get the Ulu-Mulu, enter the Sleeper Temple in Chapter 5.
  2. Clear the three Demon Lord chambers, cross the soul bridge, beat Varrag-Ruushk, take Uriziel and the five stones.
  3. Teleport to Xardas, who identifies the blade and can teach the sixth circle for 40 LP.
  4. Go to the New Camp ore-heap, find Milten, and run the recharge ritual.
  5. With Uriziel charged, Chapter 6 begins and the sword is ready for the final push.

Quest steps here are drawn from post-launch walkthrough coverage of the 2026 Remake. Sources describe the recharge sequence with slightly different wording, but they agree that the gems are depleted on pickup and that Milten helps recharge the blade at the New Camp ore-heap, so follow the in-game journal if a step looks out of order in your playthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get Uriziel in Gothic 1 Remake?

You find Uriziel deep inside the Sleeper Temple in Chapter 5. After clearing the Demon Lord chambers and crossing the soul bridge they open, you defeat the orc shaman Varrag-Ruushk on the platform and claim Uriziel along with the temple gemstones.

Do you need to recharge Uriziel in Gothic 1 Remake?

Yes. Uriziel's gems are depleted when you find it, so it is not usable as a weapon right away. Xardas converts the gems into a rune and sends you to the New Camp ore-heap, where Milten reads the recharge formula while you drive the blade into the ore. Recharging it begins the final chapter.

What does Xardas teach you for the Uriziel quest?

Xardas identifies the sword as Uriziel and can teach the sixth circle of magic for 40 Learning Points once you reach this point in the story. The sixth circle is the highest tier of magic and is only available through Xardas in the late game.
