Gothic 1 Remake Ore Farming: How to Make Money Fast Early
Ore is the currency in Gothic 1 Remake, and you need a lot of it. Here's how to bank over a thousand ore nuggets in your first couple of hours using the swampweed quest chain and a few smart early sells.
Ore is money, and training eats it
In the Colony, ore nuggets are the currency. They buy weapons, armor, and potions, but more importantly they pay for training. Every time you raise an attribute or learn a skill at a trainer, you spend Learning Points and ore. That means money isn’t a luxury in Gothic 1 Remake, it’s the throttle on how fast your character grows. Run dry and your progression stalls even if you have Learning Points to burn.
So the early goal is simple: get a stack of ore fast, before you sink into a camp and the world gets more dangerous. Done right, you can be sitting on over a thousand nuggets within the first couple of hours, mostly from two quests.
The swampweed run: your first big payday
The most efficient early money comes from running swampweed for the New Camp. The chain starts small and snowballs:
- Get Diego’s list and head to the Old Mine. This kicks off the early errands and gets you moving toward the New Camp.
- Talk to Lares, the New Camp’s leader-facing fixer. He hands you a follow-up job called A Piece of the Pie, which is the real money-maker.
- Find Baal Isidro at the bar by the lake. He’ll split his stash of swampweed rolls with you, 42 rolls, which you can sell to bandits and mercenaries around the map for roughly 10 to 13 ore each. That alone is several hundred nuggets.
That first pass already puts more ore in your pocket than most players have at level 5.
Scaling it up to 600 in one trade
The bigger version of the swampweed job pays out in a single lump:
- Speak with Balor in the jungle to receive 50 bundles of swampweed.
- Find Viran near the wooden tower at the back of the jungle. Bugs surround him, so clear them out, and he hands over the other 50 bundles.
- Return the full 100-bundle harvest to Cipher at the bar in the New Camp. He trades the lot for 600 ore nuggets in one go.
Stack that 600 on top of the rolls you sold off from Baal Isidro and you’re comfortably over a thousand ore, all before you’ve even committed to a faction. This is exactly why I push new players to do their errands around the New Camp before joining anyone. The free Lurker’s Bite sword is in the same area, so you can grab it on the same loop.
Steady income after the big quests
Once the swampweed money dries up, lean on repeatable sources:
- Hunting and skinning. Train the skinning skills and every wolf, scavenger, or molerat becomes a sellable trophy. It’s slow but it never stops paying.
- Blacksmithing with Huno. If you invest in smithing, you can forge weapons and sell them for a tidy margin. It pays for itself and then some.
- Loot you don’t use. Sell spare weapons and gear instead of hoarding them. Vendors have limited interest, so spread sales across a few buyers.
Which of these you can lean into depends on the skills you train, so plan it alongside your Learning Point spending.
The early money checklist
To start strong:
- Take Diego’s list, reach the Old Mine, and pick up the New Camp errands.
- Run A Piece of the Pie for Lares and sell off Baal Isidro’s swampweed rolls.
- Collect the 100 bundles from Balor and Viran and cash them with Cipher for 600 ore.
- Bank the lot, then spend it deliberately on training that matches your build.
Do this before you pick a camp. You’ll walk into your faction richer, better armed, and a few training sessions ahead of where most players are at the same point. If you still haven’t decided where to swear in, the camp decision guide is the place to start.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make money fast in Gothic 1 Remake?
The swampweed quests for the New Camp are the fastest early money. Selling Baal Isidro's 42 swampweed rolls, then turning in 100 bundles to Cipher for 600 ore, can net over a thousand ore in your first couple of hours.
What is ore used for in Gothic 1 Remake?
Ore is the currency. It buys weapons, armor and potions, and it pays trainers, since every attribute raise and skill costs Learning Points plus a fee in ore. Money is the throttle on how fast your character grows.
Should I farm ore before joining a camp?
Yes. Run the swampweed quests around the New Camp first, because exploring freely gets harder once you pick a side, and you will walk into your faction richer and a few training sessions ahead.
